This morning Fuels America held a teleconference to provide reaction to the climate action plan President Obama discussed during his State of the Union address last night.
The President’s speech coincided with the final day of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) comment period on a proposal to reverse the implementation of the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). The EPA plan would reduce the number of gallons of renewable fuel that could be blended into the nation’s fuel supply this year compared to last year, resulting in an increase in the use of petroleum and a spike in carbon emissions.
Speakers discussed:
The Obama Administration’s plan for tackling climate change;
The climate impacts of domestic renewable fuel production;
How the RFS drove investment in second-generation biofuels, poised for commercial production this year and how the EPA proposal will reverse that progress;
The volume of comments that were delivered to EPA during the comment period
Teleconference participants included:
Bob Dinneen, President and CEO, Renewable Fuels Association (RFA)
Brent Erickson, Executive Vice President, Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO)
Jan Koninckx, Global Business Director for Biofuels, DuPont
